Synopsis:

During WW II, American troops invaded the island of Iwo Jima, which was under the guard of a Japanese army general (played by Ken Watanabe). Based on the book Picture Letters From Commander-In-Chief by Tadamichi Kuribayashi, this movie tells the story of the battle from the Japanese perspective.

The movie Flags of Our Fathers tells the story of the same battle as Letters from Iwo Jima-- only from the American Point of view. Both films were directed by Clint Eastwood, and were filmed at the same time.
