Why is Mortal Kombat II rated R? Mortal Kombat II is rated R by the MPAA for strong bloody violence and gore, and language.

Violence: The film is full of violent scenes, centering around battles, which include stylized martial arts and magical elements. Violent scenes include dismemberments, stabbings (head, face, throat,  chest), people being thrown onto sharp blades, and head injuries caused by heavy objects. These violent scenes feature large spurts of blood and gruesome injury and corpse detail. People are menaced by demonic or supernatural figures.
Sexual Content: There ae jokes about one-night stands, groups sex, masturbation, sex toys, and genitalia.
Profanity: Sexual expletives, very crude anatomical terms for female genitals, scatological curses, terms of deity, and minor profanities are all used in the script. A sexual hand gesture is seen.
Drugs/Alcohol: There is reference to cocaine, which is supposed to e funny.
