Parent Movie Review

Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) are still learning to navigate their new partnership at the Zootopia Police Department when they sneak into the city’s 100th-anniversary celebration. Reptiles have been banned in Zootopia since its founding, and Judy suspects that snakes have slipped into the city. She hopes the party will give her a chance to investigate what’s really going on. The celebration is hosted by the Lynxley family, descendants of the founder and innovator of the weather walls that created Zootopia and made it livable for animals across every climate zone. While exploring the event, Judy and Nick meet Gary (Ke Huy Quan), a quirky and sweet-natured snake who insists that the history of Zootopia isn’t what everyone believes it to be. They embark on a rogue mission to find out the truth and make things right.

Zootopia 2 balances humour for all ages with beautiful and meaningful messages about inclusion and standing for the right. It recaptures the perfect blend of depth and accessibility for all audiences that Disney mastered so well in the early 2000s. I walked out of the theatre ready to write an essay on its symbolism and underlying themes while also wanting to take my nephews to see it simply because they’d find it hilarious. To me, a children’s comedy truly hits the mark when every single person in the theatre is howling with laughter - kids and adults alike. I know it may sound like I’m hyping the movie a lot, but I genuinely haven’t seen a kids’ film that gave me such warm-and-fuzzy feelings and pure enjoyment in a very long time.

Much like those early 2000s Disney films, Zootopia 2 isn’t afraid to dip into some darker territory that may be a bit frightening for young viewers. (I may or may not have jumped myself, but I also once screamed on a plane while watching the first movie, so I’m probably not the best barometer for jump scares.) With slightly darker themes than the original and a bit of rude humour sprinkled in, the film walks a perfect line: keeping the more mature elements subtle enough for most kids, while still fully entertaining the older audience.

Directed by Jared Bush, Byron Howard. Starring Jason Bateman, Ginnifer Goodwin, Yvette Nicole Brown. Running time: 108 minutes. Theatrical release November 26, 2025. Updated

Rating & Content Info

Why is Zootopia 2 rated PG? Zootopia 2 is rated PG by the MPAA for action/violence and rude humor

Violence: There are several instances of slapstick violence. Scenes depict choking and punching with clear intent to cause harm. There is a brief moment in which a character’s pain is deliberately drawn out to extract information (resembling mild torture, involving claws used to injure another animal). An attempted murder is shown using a lethal tranquillizer gun. Characters in pain or close to death also appear in multiple scenes. A character almost drowns. Bladed weapons are used.
Sexual Content: Some subtle rude humour appears throughout the film. A few animals are shown in immodest clothing and/or swimsuits in a comedic context.
Profanity: Terms of deity are used at least three times.
Alcohol / Drug Use: There are two instances where multiple characters are seen drinking what appears to be alcohol in social contexts, and no characters are shown drunk. There is also a reference to a character being unstable due to lead poisoning, with their behaviour loosely mimicking being high.
